What: Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues.
Where: Portions of East Central and North Central Maine, including the following counties, in East Central Maine, Penobscot. In North Central Maine, Piscataquis.
When: Until 230 AM EDT.
Impacts: Minor flooding in low-lying and poor drainage areas.
Additional Details: - At 1103 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Minor flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the advisory area. Between 1.5 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are expected over the area. This additional rain will result in minor flooding. - Some locations that will experience flooding include Mount Chase, Baxter State Park, South Branch Pond, Chesuncook, northern Katahdin Woods and Waters National Monument, Lobster Township, Lobster Lake, Shin Pond, Northeast Carry, Grand Lake Matagamon and North East Carry. - For flood safety visit www.weather.gov/safety/flood
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route. Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or creeks.
