Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive cars through flooded areas. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. The next statement will be issued this afternoon.

Description

What: Flooding along rivers, creeks, and streams caused by runoff from earlier excessive rainfall continues.
Where: A portion of central North Carolina, including the following counties, Alamance, Chatham, Durham, Lee, Moore and Orange.
When: Until 100 PM EDT.
Impacts: Dangerous flows over low-water crossings. Some low-water crossings may become impassable. River or stream flows are elevated.
Additional Details: - At 818 AM EDT, gauge reports indicated continued elevated flows along rivers, creeks, and streams, with several locations in flood in Durham and Orange counties. - Some locations that will experience flooding include Durham, Chapel Hill, Burlington, Sanford, Graham, Southern Pines, Hillsborough, Pittsboro, Carthage, Siler City, Carrboro, Pinehurst, Mebane, Aberdeen, Goldston, Elon, Rougemont, Gibsonville, Whispering Pines and Haw River. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood

Keep children away from storm drains, culverts, creeks and streams. Water levels can rise rapidly and sweep children away. River banks and culverts can become unstable and unsafe. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
